AI Use in the Hiring Process

At Hostaway, we embrace AI—enthusiastically and pragmatically. Our teams use AI every day to research faster, write clearer, code smarter, and make better decisions.

It’s even embedded in our product, where we leverage AI to help customers work more efficiently and deliver better guest experiences.

AI is a core part of the future of work, and we encourage thoughtful use of these tools.

The following is guidance for candidates to understand when to use AI in our hiring processes.

Balancing AI Assistance with Personal Input

In our hiring process, AI can help you prepare and polish, but interviews are ultimately about your own experience, judgment, and problem‑solving.

If you’re unsure what’s appropriate for a given step, ask your recruiter, and we’ll clarify.

Approach to AI in interviewing

Be thoughtful by treating AI as a preparation partner—great for practice, organization, and editing—rather than the primary author of your responses or assessments.

Be transparent by checking with us when guidelines aren’t clear, and if you require AI tools as an accommodation, let us know in advance so we can agree on a fair and compliant setup.

Do’s & Don'ts

Do’s ✅

  • Use AI to prepare, research the company, and practice answers.

  • Use AI to fact‑check and ensure everything reflects your true skills and results.

  • On permitted technical tasks. Ensure you explain prompts, choices, code, and share source material.

Don’ts ❌

  • Use AI during live interviews or real‑time evaluations unless explicitly allowed.

  • Fabricate, exaggerate, or plagiarize achievements or skills.

  • Let AI do the entire assessment or code without your understanding.

Examples Good prompts:

"Help me think of ways to quantify the impact of the platform migration that I led."

“What do Hostaway look for in a candidate based on their public information?”

“What are Hostaway’s top product features and what do customers say about them?"

Examples Bad prompts:

"Write a cover letter for an AI Data Engineer role at Hostaway.”

“Re-write my CV to match the following job requirements at Hostaway.”

“Listen to the following questions and create responses for me to pass this interview”

Use AI to enhance clarity, preparation, and confidence, but keep your answers anchored in your own experience and reasoning. Don’t rely on AI to invent content, perform substantive assessment work (unless allowed), or act as a real-time assistant during interviews. When in doubt, ask your recruiter—we value transparency and want to set you up for success.
